State Service Project
Each year the Minnesota Association of Student Councils Executive Committee selects a state service project that student councils around the state are encouraged to particpate in.

2011-2012 State Service Project - "TEENS KICKIN' IT: CHILDHOOD DISEASES

The Minnesota Association of Honor Societies and the Minnesota Association of Student Councils will join together for ONE Minnesota State Service Project. The Executive Committees of MAHS and MASC met together in October and decided on a joint service project in which Minnesota Student Leadership can make a strong impact.

Our roles in student council and National Honor Society are also very centered around the service projects we conduct in our communities. In conjunction with the Rochester State Convention theme “Prescription for Success,” the executive committees would like to officially invite you to join in action for this year’s state service project, “Teens Kickin’ Childhood Diseases.”

There are numerous ways to get involved with this state service project. Many of you may already be doing service project relating to childhood diseases. You can continue with your commitment to these charities and be involved in the State Service Project effort. If not here are some of the organizations we encourage to look into: JDRF, “Pennies for Patients,” “The Ronald McDonald House,” “Children’s Lighthouse of Minnesota”, ”Operation Smile”, and “Locks for Love” just to name a few.

Your involvement is up to you, it can be by raising money for one of the childhood disease organizations, hosting a blood drive, reading to kids at the hospital, creating and hosting a fun run. The list is endless. If you already have a yearly project that your school or division does that can tie in to this project, feel free to use that as your addition to our state wide initiative!

The MAHS and MASC executive committees will be collecting results from chapters and councils in mid April. We will be collecting hours of time donated, and/or the results of dollars, items and pints collected. Please make sure to take pictures of your events as we would like to highlight them on the website, in the newsletters and showcased at the MAHS/MASC State Convention April 21-23, 2012 at Century High School in Rochester, Minnesota. Be recognized for the group efforts of your chapter and council!
